It is clear that a wave of neo-fascism has taken hold across Europe. This situation has given rise to a great deal of pessimism. However, they are not the only ones on the continent; the left is also present. Die Linke has won Berlin, whilst in Austria the Communists have taken Graz. In Sweden, the Left Party has entered Parliament; Mélenchon will be competing against Le Pen; and the Belgian Workers’ Party has reached 21 per cent.
The far right, fuelled by the crisis of capitalism, is tearing down Europe’s democratic “security walls.” Fascism, which has become normalized in Italy and emerged as the top vote-getter in Austria, is now shaking Germany, the continent’s powerhouse. France and the United Kingdom are the major powers that will face the next test. Right-wing populism, filling every void as the left remains silent, is seizing upon social anger with each passing day
